Successful Energization and Transfer of New Polpitiya-Hambantota 220kV Transmission Line Project
On August 24, 2023, the energization and commissioning of the newly constructed Polpitiya - Hambantota 220kV Transmission Line project in Sri Lanka undertaken by CCC was successfully completed, marking the official transfer of the project to the Employer, Ceylon Electricity Board, as well as CCC's new achievement in the field of power construction in the countries along the "Belt and Road".
This 150km long transmission line runs through eleven Divisional Secretariats in Sri Lanka with a transmission capacity of 580MVA. As the first and longest 220kV transmission line in Sri Lanka using Chinese products completely, the project will greatly improve the stability of the power supply in the southern region of Sri Lanka after its commercial operation, and serve as a backbone connecting the main power grids in the north and south of Sri Lanka.
Mr. Nalinda Ilangakoon, Chairman of CEB, Eng. Rohan Seneviratne, General Manager of CEB, Eng. Anuruddha Tilakaratne, Project Manager and other top executives from the Ministry of Power participated in this occasion. Mr. Huang Yifei, Deputy General Manager, and Mr. Cui Yan from Engineering Department I delivered speeches on behalf of CCC and the project team respectively, extending their sincere gratitude to the Employer who has provided unwavering support to the project for a long time and expressing the firm confidence and expectation of CCC to continue to develop its business with its expertise and advantages in Sri Lanka in various fields such as power transmission and transformation, renewable energy, and intelligent micro-grid in the future.
